I am a tall man who rose from a flat land. My relatively carefree formative years were mostly spent within walking distance from the fertile, muddy banks of the Red river. Raised free range by a single mom, along with an older brother, we were instilled with a love for story, song and visual art while musing on the mystery of a mentally ill father.
In my teens, I migrated east with my mother, arriving in Toronto on a full moon Friday the 13th. She tried her hand opening a shop on Queen west, selling vintage clothing, collectibles and cappuccino then hosting what became a legendary late night jam session featuring a melting pot of many great musicians.
My stepping stones include,
- Socially awkward yet academically enriching high school years
- Young love, heartbreak and travel
- A seven year walk on the creaky sales floor of the Sam the Record Man flagship store on Yonge where I met my partner and mother of my son
- A rare long run with Indigo Books learning the nuts and bolts of a large, ever changing retail operation
Through many years of reconciling sales and inventory forecasts, I’ve maintained a creative outlet which originated from the doodles and greeting cards of my early years, and is characterized by simple forms and bright colours. Most of my art work has been gifted to friends and family but here is a small, sample gallery.
